In a World without You!

"In A World Without You"! This is a new released song by Quinn Sullivan (20 May 2021), a talented blues guitarist and singer. The title of this love song can be used as a foundational statement for a reflection in the context of our relation with God since God, design and desire us to reflect always our relationship with Him.

Personally, I like the part when Quinn sing in the chorus, "in the world without You, "I cannot breath." This actually true, and as a Christian we can say with confidence that without God, how can humanity survive? God is our creator and sustainer. The verse from the Bible tell this very clear in Acts 17:28: "For in Him we live and move and have our being." God is the ground of being hence he does not merely exits but He is actually higher than that, He is the ground of existence itself!

If we try to imagine a world without God, what and How it would be? Certainly, its very difficult task because when we are thinking about world, we need to assume God for there is no world in the first place without God as the very beginning of the Bible, Genesis 1:1 declare, "In the beginning God created heavens and earth."(Something cannot exits from nothing). But for now, let us just imagine this case of No-God scenario for the sake of the deep reflection.

First, Let us imagine first society without God, what it would be like? In the book entitled Society without God written by sociologist Phil Zuckerman present the argument that the secular society without God are the most wealth county in the world, Scandinavia for instance. Is that true that using reason and secular principle can make a healthier culture and society? We can say no. In fact, there are more countries that are wealthy and healthy like for example USA and UK which are grounded firmly in religion and the notion of God. Moreover, we cannot conclude that secular society create better society for Scandinavia itself even is not totally secular for according to large-scale survey the believers and cultural religious people there are found to be around 50 percent and moreover, as one writer by the name of Dag Thorkildsen argue in Religious Identity and Nordic Identity that the Protestant Ethics of Christian in Scandinavia has been a "driving force" to lead Scandinavia to be a prosperous country. Theologian and philosopher like Keith Ward and also John Caputo also argue that society without religion (God) will be barbaric and moving awal from sane morality, that's the logical consequence. Without God, how can society even talk about objective morality and moral order?

Second, Let us imagine Christianity without God. Wait, How come? Was Christianity founded by Christ, the Son of God who is the second person of Trinity, how can we even say Christianity without God? Christianity without God is a liberal view that think that Christianity only as a social ideology or social movement (LLyod Geering in his work Christianity Without God argue that the death of God movement in 19-20 century has shown the devastating effect, destroying the conventional idea of God. God is seen in humanist term.). For them, Christ is not seen as God but only as mere human, a social leader that bring revolution and revolt in first century Palestinian world. The massage of this social Jesus hence is very clear, brotherhood of man, that is the essence of Christianity!

However, the Bible left no options for this defected view. Jesus is not a mere man but God Himself as he says in John 10, "I am father are one". The context of the verse does not mean one in vision or mission but in essence and nature, that is why Christ can says previously, "Before Abraham was, I was."(John 8:58). Yes, Jesus exists with Father from eternity from eternity. Hence, Christianity without believing in Jesus as God is very fatal. Christianity without God is Christianity without savior! Moral teacher and social reformer cannot save us from sin and death, only Jesus as God-man is the only one as Act 10:28 clearly put, "There is no name under heaven (Jesus) by which men are saved"! Thus, it is dangerous as Christian if we focus only in social action without proclaiming Jesus as God through words. Both are important and need to walk hand in hand otherwise, Christianity with "only" social actions are not different with Humanist that also highly emphasizing the social action of building society!

From these two points we can at least see how the world without God is awful and terrible indeed.
I think we can all agree and rise our voice and declare this statement with a deep conviction,

"In a world without you, God,
society will be end in chaos,
Christianity will lost its essence!"
