Zero Momentum: Courage to start moving
The hardest thing is to take the first step and move. People call it, ''zero momentum'' whereby we do not do anything and just stay frozen in our current place. It allegedly known that it is very difficult for us to take a first step and most of the time, it is because we're afraid of failure. This fear of failure that hinder our moves is frequently irrational, and it creates severe anxiety and depression. It weakens the body and soul. Worsen more by this fact that we are living in a society that emphasis on the lot of bright stories to be exposed-fudging reality I would say. Therefore, many seems to believe that they are precious and valuable only if they have something great to boast of, and yes, it is definitely not any of their failure. In this case, a very wise word from Socrates probably can help us to rethinking this problem further. He says, ''Falling down is not a failure, failure comes when you stay where you have fallen.''
Although Socrates advice is useful, the real problem do not reside there. How can we stay where we have fallen and become better if we do not even try to do anything or something in the first place. In other words, zero momentum, without zero action is zero result! If we do not try do something, simply something won't happened either for there is no such thing as fallenness event after all. That's the basic fact. Speaking based on experience, it is not that easy to make a first step. Theoretically we know we need to move, yet practically it's hard. So, I venture to argue that courage is what we all need today.
Most critical virtues since ancient time is courage. Albeit it is important, it does not mean that everybody will instantly master it. Yet, what I found is Quite interesting. Nobody talks much about the courage to take a courage. I think the problem is actually this, not having a courage to take a courage. We can ask deeper, why do we not have courage to take courage? Because there are no radical effort or actions to eliminate all considerations that hinder and disrupt us to move forward (state of being distracted). To put it simple, we are too busy to move. I think to have courage to take a courage is to a make a commitment to see above the current situation and willingly and intentionally transport our mind and feeling to the distant future, and also strictly focusing ourselves to the world of possibility with ''when'' mentality and not ''what if.'' This act of commitment is the act of centering the courage to make the leap to the future world, so to speak.
To have courage to start moving, one need to set their mind and heart first, beyond the ordinary, routine and the predictability. That's the utmost importance secret of courage. That's the momentum that we create to help us stepping forward, stepping in the imaginary stone that we ourselves created. That is why the process of centering needs to be repetitive, so we will have enough energy to help us to make a very firm commitment to be brave to be brave. We do the act of centering again and again until the dream become so real and vivid in realistic sense, which in effect will make us afraid of losing it, yes, it is a fear of losing something that we never owned before. How then it possible, logically speaking?
Apparently, it is possible since it is a paradox. Suppose we interpret something as a ''concrete thing'' then, it is difficult for us to understand that paradox of losing something we never owned. However, if we understand losing something whereby something is seen as an ''abstract concept'', like dreams. Dreams may appear to be elusive, but it is equally real. Probably, our dreams are not just a mere foggy dream but a real visionary prophecy for us, our destiny that has been wired from the beginning of our existence. Maybe, even, the dream that reappeared in our heart and mind are the true real, as Gong Xiang Jian, a Chinese famous painter once describes, ''Dreams are more real than reality itself, they are closer to the self.'' Thus, our duty is to do something that we can do today, so that we are not just being trapped in our temporary-and unfinished reality for long. Progress, movement and change only happened in the flow of action whilst aiming for an alternative-better world, hopefully!
