The God Implanted DNA
DNA
(Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is the basic of our heredity. DNA is the "language
of life" as Francis Collins, the head of genome project famously asserts.
The genetic blueprint are encoded in our DNA, inherited half from our father
and mother. Saliva, nose-mouth secretion and also blood bear high amount of
DNA. Even from our outer skin cell, we can found a certain amount of DNA as
well. To make it plain, its everywhere inside of us. Although we cannot see
them clearly through our naked eyes. The molecules of DNA are so small and
cannot be seen even with a regular light microscope.
Not just DNA
can transmit the code of living to produce new life, the forensic evidence for
criminal case also can be established through touch and wearer DNA, founded in
associated criminal scene. Based on these sample and act of profiling from
touch and wearer DNA, we can discover some further clues that will bring a
significant progress to the criminal case. Moreover, recent study also conclude
that DNA affect people behavior (non-shared environmental influences) also
quite fascinating, DNA can also influence the depression level and academics
score and competency.
There are
differences between DNA and RNA. Although they are identical, they are not the same
with several qualitative differences. DNA consists of two stands of nucleotides
whereas RNA consists only stand of nucleotides. DNA is made up of 4 million
nucleotides. RNA is made up of 75-2000 nucleotide DNA is genetical material and
RNA is non-genetical material, and several others. How about the function?
Because of the complexity some found difficult to explain. We might use this
metaphor to help us. DNA is like drive, save various information of our genetic
code short term whereby RNA translating and transcribing the data from DNA.
Both DNA and RNA are inter-connected.
Well known
to many, the most common discussion about DNA is frequently limited to physical
discussion. Nothing wrong with that. Yet, there is another sense of the matter,
which is not physical in nature but also spiritual. In other words, there is
God DNA in each and every one of us. One of it, is the relationship DNA, the
relational hardwiring whereby there is a sense in which, from the deepest core
of our soul, human is long for the things above themselves to comprehend.
Through history we know, humanity was displaying the longing through the means
of religion, whereby the relation between transience and eternal, God (gods)
and humanity are known to be authentic, wired and projected out most naturally.
From the smallest tribe and to the largest kingdom and nations of the past
(Almost no "stones" left unturned regarding the supernatural belief).
Although
atheists are allegedly known to be the arch enemy of established Major
religions, what they try to debunk is the traditional idea of Metaphysical God
which is personal for most of them, are still believe in some sort of higher
power or cosmic force so called, "The Einsteinian God" (Impersonal
God). Some atheist does not deny the possibility of God as personal being as
long as there are enough evidences to convince them in a naturalistic way.
Theologians claim, in counter response, to wish only for the natural and
visible evidence is very reductionist because the idea of God itself cannot be
boxed solely in a physical realm. Relevance to our discussion, one thing we can
ponder deeper is regarding the existence of the uncountable treatises on
happiness. Numerous people throughout the century were trying to address the
quest of attaining happiness as seems this is the ultimate goal of every
mankind. Thinker like Sam Harris prefer to use the concept of Well-being as
substitute toward the notion of happiness.
The quest
for happiness is somewhat encoded in our gene from beginning. Everyone are
looking for happiness. However, it seems impossible to think a perfect state of
wellbeing, happiness or bliss whatsoever, apart from the transcendental ground
which raise above the shared-natural phenomena of ours which Buddha best
describes as Annica, Dukkha, Anatta. This philosophy of Buddha
(East) has influenced thinker like Allan Watts, and also Schopenhauer as they
both propose that life are in constant change and impermanence and full of
misery. The world around me only as only a "representation", captured
through the means of sense and sensation. It is not the real essence of things
by itself (The Will). And suffering is the substance and the a priori definition
of reality of being that raise from the root of existence, according to the
philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer.
What
interest me is how can we define evil, suffering, bad in the first place
without the idea of objective category? Here, Ravi Zaharias a notable Christian
Apologists wisely says, "when one asserts that there is such a thing as
evil, one must assume there is such a thing as good. When one assumes there is
such a thing as good, he or she must also assume there is an objective moral
law by which to distinguish between good and evil. When you assume an objective
moral law, you must posit a moral lawgiver—the source of the moral law."
This is not only a mere logical leap that bring us to the very fact of the
moral law-giver in order to know and distinguished evil and good, but the moral
law giver who had given the law himself is about to bring a relationship, a
deepest desire of which we are ever long for. The God implanted DNA, the I-Thou relationship.
This relation does not bring happiness or a state of wellbeing but deeper. In
Christian language, particularly of New Testament, we called it as
"joy." Maybe this is the happiness that humanity is dreaming
of.
In Christian
Theology, the DNA of God in us is to be said as the foundation of every relationship
visible in the world. We are primarily created for communion with God and as
the result, this relationship expanded through the others areas as well. Brock
Bingaman an associate professor of religious study at Wesleyan Collage put it
this way, "Human being corresponded first of all relationship of God to
themselves and to the whole creation. But they also correspond to the inner
relationship of God to [Godself]-to the eternal, inner love of God which
express and manifest in creation." The debate between whether God exists
or real is perhaps will never be eradicated totally in the whole history of
mankind. Atheist according to Tillich are philosophically attacking God only in
air since God is not-thing (Not a thing). God does not exist. God is beyond the
category of existence. He is far greater and supreme above all existence.
I venture to
assume, this conversation and debate of God from both side, atheist or theist
will last for a very long time without ending, for somehow thus far, we cannot
or are able to eliminate the "God-Talk" because either we talk and
somehow relate with him from His absences or from His presences. Biological
evolutionary will also agree that human have in history, somehow develop the
idea of God for survival. To deny or to affirm God is to convey that this issue
about God by itself is vital and inescapable. Why so? Simple, we cannot stop
doing it until now because perhaps, there is a real God implanted DNA inside of
each and every one of us. Leading thinker in cognitive science as Justin
Barrett argues, belief in God is not artificial activity rather, rises from
natural in our human mind.
